Skilled migration slashed in 2010-11 Budget

Australia’s Federal Budget for 2010-11 was brought down this evening and in summary the main impact on the migration program during that period will be:
- The overall size of the migration program will remain unchanged at 168 700 places.
- This figure will consist of a total skill stream (which includes employer sponsored and business skills applicants) of 113,850, a total family stream of 54 550 places and 300 special eligiblity places.,
- An additional 9150 places have been allocated for employer sponsored skilled migration
- An additional 200 business skills visas will be offered
- A decrease of 3600 places will apply for general skilled migration
- A decrease of 5750 will apply to family migration
