DIAC has now announced the new Skilled Occupation List, which will become effective on 1 July:

The occupation codes look a little different because they are not taken from ASCO; DIAC is now using ANZCO; the Australian and New Zealand Standard Classification of Occupations. The new list is specific to the general skilled migration (GSM) program and does not apply to employer-sponsored permanent or temporary visas.
DIAC has said the list will be updated annually, and will change in accordance with the needs of the Australian labour market. It has also stated that current applicants for skilled migration whose application is no longer on the SOL will not be affected by the introduction of the new list.
